Organ Donation Symposium

On April 6th, 2016, we held an Organ Donation Symposium, which attracted 80 students (medical and pharmacy) and faculty. Once again a representative from LifeSharing came and spoke about the need for organ donors, provided grave statistics on the topic, and explained how organ donation affects future health care professionals, particularly pharmacists. We had our special guest Dr. Shirley Tsunoda, PharmD and Dr. Alexander Kuo MD give their perspective on their role in transplant. They talked about their experience and the impact they made. The LifeShare representative talked about how everything happens from when the organ is procured and transplanted to the surgery room. At the end of the presentation, we had 2 organ donor recipient give their story of their life before and after the transplant. They told and showed us how drastically the transplant has helped them with their lives. The Organ Donation Symposium was a eye-opening experience for many of the pharmacy students and gave a great discussion amongst the medical school students.
