Ambulatory Care / Acute Care Panel

This spring, CSHP-UCSD members interested in learning about ambulatory care and acute care pharmacy were in for a treat. On Friday, April 8, 2016, three UCSD Health System Acute Care resident pharmacists and two UCSD Health System Ambulatory Care resident pharmacists volunteered their time to offer advice, words of wisdom, and general information to student pharmacists at CSHP-UCSD's hour-long lunchtime Ambulatory Care/Acute Care Panel. Drs. Maitri Patel and Elizabeth Vuong spoke about their ambulatory care experiences, while Drs. Inlok Lam, Vicky Kuo, and Anthony Wong vouched for acute care. Around 30 CSHP-UCSD students, the majority of whom were P1s and P2s, listened eagerly as the residents discussed their reasons for pursuing their respective fields, advantages/disadvantages of their fields, and what a "typical" day looked like for each of them. The resident panelists answered these preset questions, a compilation of common and general topics, for the first two-thirds of the talk. During the last 15-20 minutes, questions were open to the audience. CSHP-UCSD students took turns asking more specific questions, such as examples of what each panelist did to be competitive for a residency in their field, and general advice for student pharmacists. Many thanks to Drs. Patel, Vuong, Lam, Kuo, and Wong for graciously volunteering their lunch breaks to impart wisdom and inspiration to our CSHP-UCSD members. Thanks as well to our CSHP-UCSD members for your participation in order to make this event a success!
